- Shasta view early in the morning, just after sunrise.
- Arrival in Salem, about 3:00 p.m.

- Early to bed so we could get up early

Thursday, September 16th
-
Ate breakfast at hotel (full breakfast buffet, very good!)
- Left about 9 a.m. heading for Seaside on the coast via I-5 and US 26.
- Reached Seaside around 11 or so, then parked and walked and explored the shops and checked in.
- Hotel: Seashore Inn, 3rd floor, ocean view, sound of surf!
- Lunch at Pig 'n' Blanket, recommended in Moon Guide for Oregon Coast.
- Ecola State Park: Old growth rainforest, then awesome views of coast from trails... Tillamook Lighthouse on tiny island, a mile or so off-shore from Indian Bay. Views south reached Haystack in Cannon Beach.
- Cannon Beach, shopping and exploring. Ice cream for snack. Walk to The Haystack, an ocean stack on the beach, tide pools. Dinner at Mo's, not what we expected. Back to Seaside and hotel... fogged in.
